  • Worked examples blend qualitative and quantitative perspectives
  • Critical commentaries pose alternative views where appropriate

  • A New section in every chapter called ‘Responsible Operations’, which summarizes how the topic touches upon social, ethical, and environmental issues

About the authors: Nigel Slack is Emeritus Professor of Operations Management and Strategy at Warwick Business School, an Honorary Professor at Bath University and 'Honorary Fellow of the European Operations Management Association'.

Alistair Brandon-Jones is a Full Chaired Professor in Operations and Supply Chain Management, and Head of the Information, Decisions, and Operations Division at the University of Bath, School of Management.

Nicola Burgess is Reader in Operations Management at Warwick Business School. She has worked extensively with public sector organisations to understand operations management and improvement in a public sector context.

As of 2023 ASCM/APICS has decided to combine the two modules CPIM Part 1 (Basics of SCM) and Module CPIM Part 2 into one module and exam. Since the fundamentals materials are no longer available as a separate module, DDV has decided to look for an alternative, which is at least as good as the previous CPIM Part 1. We found the book Operations Management from Slack et al.

We see that there are some differences between the terminologies from previously used material and for this book. We have chosen to use this book as the material is up to date (2022) and, is updated every 3 years.

During the course, the instructor will also use the APICS dictionary and make the students aware of differences between terms.

This means that if the student wants to take the CPIM exam (now Part 1 and Part 2 combined) at APICS, they can make a jump start as about 40% of CPIM (=the old CPIM Part 1) will be covered. DDV can assist in creating a self-study learning environment, just as it will be possible to get extra hours for exam preparation.

About APICS & ASCM: APICS certifications are the standard for training in operations management & production logistics. All over the world, APICS is regarded as the go-to training for professionals working in operations and supply chain management. ASCM is the association that manages and updates the APICS training courses. ASCM stands for "Association for Supply Chain Management". People who are members of ASCM receive member benefits, such as discounts on APICS exams.
In Denmark, DDV offers instructor-led training with an APICS-recognized instructor.
